Mark was born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia and grew up living all across Canada with his parents, who were officers of The Salvation Army. His grandparents were also officers for a short time, as was his great grandmother before them. Mark was commissioned and ordained an officer of The Salvation Army as an Ambassador for Christ in 1989. Mark holds the following academic qualifications: BTh and MDiv (Tyndale), BA (Waterloo), MA (University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto), STM (Regis College in the University of Toronto), and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
Mark has been married to Isobel since 1982 and shares life and ministry and a family of five children with her. Lynn, with her husband Joel, entered the College for Officer Training in 2017. Marci and her husband Jordan live in Toronto, as does their youngest daughter, Evangeline and her husband Raul. Travis lives with his wife, Kelly, in Alberta, and their youngest son, Wesley, lives in Vancouver. Mark and Isobel have five grandchildren.
With Isobel, Mark spent 28 years in joint pastoral ministry, serving Salvation Army congregations across Canada (Sackville NS, London ON, North York ON, Richmond Hill ON, Victoria BC, Ajax/Pickering ON, and Cariboo Hill Temple in Burnaby BC). Mark planted two of those churches (Richmond Hill and Westsong in Victoria) while he was working on his DMin with a focus in church planting. Mark had additional responsibility as an Area Commander in British Columbia for three years. He is currently the Dean of the School for Continuing Studies at Booth University College.
