Is the Salvation Army “a church”? This has been a perennial question for Salvationists throughout the movement’s 127-year history. It is tied up with questions about the unique identity of the Salvation Army, its relationship to the broader church community, and the nature of the church as a whole. This course will explore Salvationist thinking about the church as it has developed from its earliest days to the present. Attention will also be given to the Wesleyan and revivalist influences that shaped Salvation Army ecclesiology.
